The Great Andhra Heist: The Andhra Story Nobody Tells

In 1971 census,Andhra had 14 Lakh christians.
In 2011 census, Andhra had only 6 Lakh Christians.

Where did the Christians disappear?

Vote-bank politics, foreign funds, conversion mafia, corruption and fraudulent reservation policies has created a mega fraud that threatens to consume Andhra today.  Details below:

The holy land of Andhra is the home to Vedic dharma. It is home to the great 5 Pancharama temples of Shiva. Home to Tirupati and Simhachalam. Christianity was not known in Andhra before the colonial age. It was brought by white pastors. But conversions until 1947 were very few and far in between. The actual story starts after 1947.

At independence in 1947, Andhra was overwhelmingly Hindu. The SC population was around 13.8%. These were genuine Dalit communities like Mala and Madiga. The ST population was 3.7%. Genuine forest-dwelling tribes like Chenchu, Koya, Gond and Savara. Christians were barely 1% of the population. This was the baseline. A Hindu land with a clearly defined SC/ST population. Then the American missionaries arrived. In large numbers. With large funds

The modus operandi of the American missionary machine in Andhra was precise and calculated. Step 1: Identify a numerically large OBC community : weavers, fishermen, nomadic tribes, peasant cultivators. Step 2: Target their economically vulnerable members. Offer education, healthcare, financial support. Convert them to Christianity. Step 3: Once a critical mass is achieved, deploy political influence. Lobby AP politicians to reclassify the community from OBC to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. Step 4: The new SC/ST faces a problem. The Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950, Clause 3, categorically states: "No person who professes a religion different from Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist shall be deemed to be a member of a Scheduled Caste." Conversion legally ends SC status. Step 5: The church instructs: declare Hindu on Census, retain SC papers, keep all benefits. Christians vanish from Census. SCs rise. The numbers in the Census are not a mystery. They are a receipt

The SC/ST list expansion in AP is documented and staggering. STs: 1951: 7.67 lakh STs in AP (3.7%) 2001: 52 lakh STs in AP (6.6%) Nearly 7x increase in 50 years. No natural demographic process produces this. The cause is in Parliament records. The SC- ST Orders Act 1976 extended ST status to Lambada, Sugali, Yerukula, Yanadi and Nakkala communities across the entire state. These communities were originally classified as Backward Classes in the Nizam's Hyderabad State. One Act of Parliament made them ST overnight.

Now look at the Christian numbers alongside the SC numbers. Same state. Same decades. Christians in undivided AP (Census of India): 

1971: 18.23 lakh (4.19%)

 1981: 14.33 lakh (2.68%) 

1991: 12.16 lakh (1.83%) 

2001: 11.81 lakh (1.55%)

 2011: 11.29 lakh (1.34%)

 Scheduled Castes in undivided AP (Census of India): 

1961: 13.82% 

1971: 13.27% 

1981: 14.87%

 1991: 15.93% 

2001: 16.19% 

2011: 16.41% 

Now add SC% and Christian% together for each decade: 1961: 17.79 

1971: 17.47

Who built this system? this system? On 30 August 1977, Congress CM Jalagam Vengala Rao issued GO 341. The GO split SC benefits into two categories: 1) Statutory benefits (constitutional, Hindus/Sikhs/Buddhists only): Reserved seats in elections, government job quota, educational reservation quota. 2) Non-statutory benefits (state schemes, NOW extended to Christian converts): Housing allotment, land allotment, free electricity, SC welfare funds, concession loans. A converted SC Christian lost the constitutional quota seats. But retained access to the bulk of the money. Congress had just emerged from the Emergency era. Vengala Rao needed to cement a loyal vote bloc. The church delivered organized votes. The CM delivered GO 341.

GO 341 was only the first layer. AP also created a separate OBC sub-category called BC-C: SC Converts to Christianity. This gave Christian converts a second reservation pipeline through the OBC quota for education and employment. Then came the AP Christian Minority Finance Corporation with its own schemes. So by converting from Hindu SC to Christianity, a person became entitled to: (1) SC benefits under GO 341: housing, land, loans, free electricity (2) BC-C OBC quota: education and employment reservation (3) AP State Christian Minority Finance Corporation schemes (4) AP State SC Finance Corporation schemes. Four pipelines. Simultaneously. 4 times reservation at once for the same person. This exists in no other state of India. All the while declaring Hindu on the Census to keep the SC headcount inflated, which determines how large the total SC budget allocation is

s GO 341 even legal? No. It directly contradicts the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950. A state government GO cannot override it. The LRPF petitioned President Ram Nath Kovind in October 2020 to declare GO 341 unconstitutional and cancel it. In March 2026, the Supreme Court ruled that a converted SC Christian cannot invoke the SC/ST Atrocities Act. Conversion legally ends SC status. The court was explicit. GO 341 has operated for 47 years. Never struck down. Never challenged by any AP government. Because every government needed the church vote bank.

Now for the pastor Fraud: When the YSRCP government announced monthly honorarium for Christian pastors in 2019, the AP government paid COVID relief to 29,841 Christian pastors in the state. That is one professional pastor for every 10 Christians. One religious worker for every 3 families. No religious community anywhere in the world has that ratio. The only explanation is that the real Christian population is at least 20 times the Census figure.

Then came the RTI. Data obtained showed 70% of pastors claiming the monthly honorarium held Hindu SC certificates. The men leading Christian congregations were holding Hindu caste papers and claiming Hindu SC government benefits. When exposed, the government did not stop the fraud. Instead, It changed the payment route from individual pastors to the church institution, so official records would no longer reveal who was receiving the money.

The foreign funding pipeline runs directly into coastal Andhra. CASE 1: Harvest India. Run by Bishop Suresh. Collected millions from US and UK donors for declared charity work. FCRA licence suspended by Govt in September 2021 for violating FCRA 2010. Why? Bishop Suresh Kumar is officially not a Christian. He holds a Hindu SC certificate. The bishop of a Christian organisation. Holding a Hindu SC certificate. Collecting foreign millions. While drawing SC government benefits.

CASE 2: India Rural Evangelical Fellowship (IREF) Founded 1972. One of AP's oldest church-linked NGOs. FCRA licence suspended August 2025 by MHA. Received Rs 28.6 crore from US and UK branches between 2019 and 2024. Investigators found: coercive conversions of minors, misuse of children's photographs for overseas fundraising, foreign funds used for political mobilization.

What is the real Christian population of AP today? Census 2011 says: 6.82 lakh Christians (1.34%) Now check what the churches themselves say. From the horse's mouth. The Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) claims 45 lakh members and 5000 churches in AP alone. This is just one church denomination. The Telugu Baptist Church Council claimed 9.79 lakh in 2023.

The political dynasty that weaponised all of this: 1977: Congress CM Jalagam Vengala Rao issues GO 341. 2004 to 2009: YS Rajasekhara Reddy becomes CM. A devout Christian from Kadapa whose political base is built on converted SC communities in coastal AP. Jerusalem pilgrimage subsidies introduced. Christian welfare schemes expanded. Church-state nexus becomes the engine of AP politics. 2019 to 2024: Son Jagan Mohan Reddy becomes CM. Pastor honorarium launched as election promise. RTI exposes Hindu SC certificate fraud. Government restructures payment to church to hide paper trail. AP Assembly passes resolution demanding SC status for Dalit Christians, which would permanently legalise the Census fraud.

2024 onwards: Chandrababu Naidu becomes CM. He does not scrap GO 341. He does not stop pastor honorarium. He releases 30 crore for 8,427 pastors ahead of Good Friday 2025. Then 50.5 crore as one full year of honorarium announced on Christmas Day 2025. Andhra Christians are now too numerous and no political party wants to antagonize them.

Who actually lost? The genuine SC communities. The genuine original beneficiaries of reservation. The Madiga Dandora movement, led by Manda Krishna Madiga, spent 30 years fighting for sub-classification of SC reservations. A large portion of the OBCs in coastal AP had converted to Christianity, used Church influence to push their communities into SC, while continuing to draw SC benefits using Hindu certificates. They had missionary education, SC benefits via GO 341, OBC benefits via BC-C, and Minority Finance Corporation access. The Madigas who remained Hindu received almost nothing from the SC quota.
